Marco Verratti left PSG to join Al-Arabi last September after a long transfer saga where he was linked to multiple sides, and his move needed some time to come together. The Qatari club spent €45M, and he inked a two-year contract. Luis Enrique had immediately shown him the door after being hired, Le Parisien reveals (via Tuttomercatoweb).

The gaffer called him and Neymar out for their lifestyle outside the pitch in particular. Both departed as the Brazilian moved to Saudi Arabia. The manager reportedly told the midfielder: “You are the prototype of the player I hate.”

In addition, Enrique said to Verratti that he would never be fielded with him at the helm due to his lack of professionalism in one of the first meetings between the two. He earned the nickname ‘owl’ for his night-time activities in the French capital.

The new boss disregarded the previous cornerstones’ accomplishment to start anew. Most of them left, and PSG signed multiple younger players. The Azzurri staple was ultimately acquired by the other team owned by Nasser Al-Khelaifi.

Verratti wasn’t called up by Luciano Spalletti in September since he had skipped the friendlies and the early games because of his looming departure. However, the transfer to the Middle East won’t outright exclude him from the pool. He has featured twice with his new outfit.
