David De Gea’s situation has surprised many across the world of football. The 33-year-old left Manchester United last summer upon the expiry of his contract, but despite being a highly-regarded goalkeeper, he has been unable to find a new club, meaning that he is still a free agent.

De Gea is aiming to return to football for next season, having spent the last 10 months out of the game. He was recently pictured doing training drills, as he steps up his efforts to sign for a club in the summer.

According to Estadio Deportivo , De Gea wants to return to La Liga, and one club he has been linked with is Atletico Madrid, whom he played for until 2011, before joining Man Utd. Los Rojiblancos could be looking for a new keeper this summer, amid reports that they are open to selling current number one Jan Oblak.

Giorgi Mamardashvili has also been linked as a possible replacement for Oblak, but the advantage that De Gea has is he would cost no fee, whereas Atletico Madrid would need to spent big to sign the Georgian from Valencia. This situation could be one to follow over the coming weeks.
