Carlos Alcaraz eyes to defend title at Barcelona Open following Monte Carlo pullout

While Carlos Alcaraz invited young tennis players to come and play at the Babolat Cup, the Spaniard is himself gearing up to defend his title at the Barcelona Open following a forced pullout from the Monte Carlo Masters. Alcaraz had to decide against playing at the clay-court tournament over injury concerns.

Nevertheless, the 20-year-old seems to have made enough progress in his recovery. Alcaraz spent the time practicing at his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero ‘s Academy while being away from the tennis court and, as per reports, the Spaniard will head to Barcelona on Sunday.

Alcaraz is expected to play at the ATP 500 event where he is a two-time defending champion. As the draws are expected anytime soon, Alcaraz will most probably enter the tournament as the top seed. He will then open his campaign on Wednesday, but it is to be seen if he is ready to compete amid issue with his forehand.

As per the report, Alcaraz refrained from playing forehand shots during his practice sessions in Villena. He was still wearing the arm strapping during his sessions last Thursday and Friday. Hence, it will be interesting to see if the Spaniard recovers in time to defend his title in Barcelona or not.
