The Islanders entered tonight's games off of an overtime win on Thursday night over the Toronto Maple Leafs at home. Tonight's game in Nashville kicked off a four game road trip for the Islanders.

The Predators had an early push in the game, but the Islanders pushed back and by midway through the first period had outshot the Predators 7-3. Nashville got the first power play chance with less than a minute left in the period as Anders Lee headed to the box for a hook. The Predators didn't get anything going before the period ended and carried just over a minute of power play time to the second.

The Islanders were able to kill off the remainder of Nashville's power play to start the second and then earned a man advantage of their own at 2:37 as Jeremy Lauzon was whistled for a hook.  The Islanders recorded two shots on goal during the two minutes but couldn't convert, and the teams returned to five a side.

Neither team could gain much offensive advantage through the middle of the period. At 12:14, Jeremy Lauzon sat for an interference call, but the Predators killed off the two minute penalty. At 15:10, Roman Josi was tripped up by Matt Martin, and the Predators got their second power play chance of the game. The Predators didn't convert on the opportunity, and the teams finished the second period scoreless.

The third period was more of the same back and forth play. Nashville outshot New York 7-1 through the first half of the period, but Sorokin was able to make the saves. At 12:00 Jean-Gabriel Pageau's shot from outside went in off Schenn to give the Islanders the lead.

Luke Evangelista drew a tripping penalty at 13:13 and Nashville had their third power play chance. Evangelista cashed in on the opportunity at 15:08 to tie the game with a shot from the circle. Just as the game looked like it was going to overtime, Alexandre Carrier's shot hit a defender's stick and floated over Sorokin's head and into the net with :07 left. The Predators won the faceoff, and Juuso Pärssinen scored a last second empty net goal to make the final score 3-1.
