Memphis Grizzlies Add Interesting Prospect Due To Injuries While G-League Veteran Joins Sixers, And Pistons Signs Veteran

Jarreau has played five games for the Grizzlies before his first 10-day deal expired last night. The 26-year-old University of Houston product averaged 5.4 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 3.4 assists in 17. 6 minutes per game. He posted a shooting slash line of .333/.375/.667.

Jarreau is a 6-5 wing who is a well-rounded player known more for his defense. He averaged one steal and has defended shots inside the three-point arc well. He has done a fantastic job on the defensive backboard and shown the ability to be a playmaker, though turnovers are a huge issue.

Jarreau is a slasher who has struggled to finish at the rim because he lacks elite athleticism. He is also not a real threat from behind the arc.

Periera is the fourth player from the G-League’s Mexico City Capitanes to be called up to the NBA. The athletic 23-year-old Brazilian forward is efficient offensively and an excellent rebounder. He is also a strong defender who has shown the ability to block shots. However, Periera doesn’t shoot the ball from beyond the arc or get to the free-throw line much.

Peiriera produced 14 doubles, averaging 10.8 points and 8.6 rebounds in 40 appearances for Mexico City. He also came up with 1.3 steals and 1.1 blocks while compiling .628/.297/.627.

Grizzlies Injuries

Memphis did not have to make any corresponding moves despite already having 15 players on standard contracts, as they used the NBA hardship extension to bring in both players. The Grizzlies have seven players out with injuries.

Ja Morant, Derrick Rose, Ziaire Williams, Brandon Clarke, Marcus Smart, and Yuta Watanabe are sidelined players. Clarke could return anytime, as he has been practicing with the Memphis Hustle. Watanabe, who had been out with a wrist injury, is currently dealing with personal issues.

Smart could return at the end of the month or early April. Meanwhile, Rose and Williams are slated to return before the regular season ends.

Vince Williams Jr., Luke Kennard, and Scotty Pippen Jr. were also ruled out for the Griz’s game against Golden State tonight.

Detroit Pistons Make Roster Moves

The Detroit Pistons filled their open roster spot, at least temporarily. However, following the news that Ausar Thompson and Isaiah Stewart will be shut down for the remainder of the season, Chemieze Metu has an excellent chance to finish the season with the team.

The Pistons signed Metu to a 10-day earlier this morning.

Metu, a six-year veteran, thrives around the rim and on the glass. The 27-year-old center was with the Phoenix Suns earlier this year, averaging 5.0 points and 3.0 rebounds while shooting 50.8% from the field over 12.8 minutes in 30 games. He was released by the Grizzlies after they acquired him in a trade deadline deal from the Suns.

Metu should get a chance to make an immediate impact as the Pistons are shorthanded with Thompson, Stewart, Simone Fontecheccio, and Taj Gibson sidelined. Gibson saw 11 minutes in his first appearance with the Pistons on March 18.

Philadelphia Adds D.J. Wilson

The Philadelphia 76ers are slated to add D.J. Wilson on a 10-day contract, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic last night.

However, as of this evening, the deal hasn’t been completed.

Wilson has played in 146 NBA games but has spent the entire season with the G-League Osceola Magic. The 6-10 forward, who was selected by the Milwaukee Bucks with the No. 17 overall pick in 2017, is known for his shooting and rebounding, though he has also shown the ability to block shots in the G-League.

Wilson averaged 19.4 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 4.8 assists in 33 games with Osceola this season. He also produced 15 double-doubles and 1.8 3-pointers while compiling a shooting slash line of .560/.396/.735.

Wilson was last in the NBA in 2021-22 with the Toronto Raptors.
