Few institutions are associated with the arts–particularly music, drama, and dance as much as Juilliard, which has proved to be a remarkably fertile and successful training ground for major talents. Many of the school's graduates have achieved remarkable success in theater and on-screen. This is a testament to the school's rigors and the many useful acting skills it inculcates in its students. Rutina Wesley burst onto the scene with her starring role in the HBO series True Bloodin which she plays the complicated character of Tara Thornton, the best friend of main character Sookie Stackhouse. It was a juicy role for Wesley, and it gave her a chance to put her skills learned at Juilliard — from which she graduated in 2005 — to good use, and she would go on to become one of the best characters in the series. She would go on to continue showcasing her considerable talents in the drama series Queen Sugarwhich ran from 2016 to 2022.
